How To Install Microsoft-PPTP VPN Fren In Ubuntu Linux

Before I explain how to install microsoft-pptp vpn fren in ubuntu linux, I guess it’s important to know that, so far, this microsoft-pptp vpn only works on ubuntu dapper [6.06 LTS], kubuntu dapper or other linux varian that has the same version with it. For the latest ubuntu version, I think it won’t work correctly.

Below is the step by step to make FREN VPN works in our ubuntu linux:
1. download pptp_vpn.tar.gz
2. extract the file by executing tar -zxvf pptp_vpn.tar.gz
3. cd [change directory] to pptp_vpn
4. execute this command: sudo dpkg -i pptp-linux_1.5.0-4_i386.deb libglib1.2_1.2.10-9_i386.deb libgtk1.2-common_1.2.10-17_all.deb libgtk1.2_1.2.10-17_i386.deb libxml1_1%3a1.8.17-10_i386.deb libglade0_1%3a0.17-3_i386.deb php-gtk-pcntl_1.0.0-2_i386.deb php-pcntl_4.3.8-2_i386.deb pptpconfig_20040809_all.deb
5. open your terminal/konsole then execute sudo pptpconfig, in less then a second, you’ll see a GUI of microsoft-pptp vpn.
6. make a configuration like this:

– TAB server

name: write your VPN name [free as you like]
server: type your VPN server [ it depends on what ISP you have, for CBN, you just need to type m8.cbn.net.id, for another ISP, you can check at fren mobile-8 websites to see the details]
domain: leave it blank
username: type your vpn username
password: type your vpn username

- TAB Routing, choose Al to Tunnel
- TAB DNS, leave it automatic
- TAB Encryption, uncheck all options
- TAB miscellanous, check enable connection debugging facilities
7. Click add

If those seven steps have already done, now you can start your first dial up to m8-cbn using wvdial, gnomeppp or kppp. After that, you can run your pptp by clicking start on your VPN GUI. If there isn’t error, you’ll see green color at your profile. After that, you can start browsing. Good Luck!!
